Teamwork is an extremely important factor in the success of Tabor Rotations. Students must be able to work together, and stay on task in order for them to gain the most out of their station. Productive teams also avoid interruption of other groups and the teacher.

I offer my team points during or after a station rotation. Last year, I kept a running tally chart for each color group. At the end of our math workshop, the team with the most points would each get a compliment stick, or a Popsicle stick. (Part of our token economy reward system.) Teams can earn points for staying on task, best clean up, best line up, good exit question answers, etc. Teams can also lose points for misusing materials, disrespect, etc. It's highly effective when students are sharing their "exit question" answers, or their observations, and other teams compete to the best the best listeners. It's amazing how quiet a classroom of 6 year olds can be when their team is trying to earn a point! Competition is very motivating. And a little bit of healthy peer pressure doesn't hurt.
My tally chart was also a great way for students to practice quickly adding tally mark groups.
